Should I assess or learn first?

If the subject is unfamiliar

Start with foundation learning where available. You do not need to earn a low score to justify learning the basics. Write down the concepts you need to understand and the kinds of decisions the topic supports.

If you already use the topic

An available assessment can help identify areas worth revisiting. Confirm its scope and edition, where relevant. Practical experience does not mean every question will be familiar, and a short assessment cannot sample all of your work.

After either route

Choose a small practical task, collect suitable evidence and seek feedback. For example, explain a failure chain using a fictional component rather than merely recalling a definition. Reassessment is useful when its scope and limitations are understood.
