What belongs in a BESS project brief?

A practical starting point for an initial consulting discussion.

Start with the intended use

Describe what the storage system is expected to support: for example a facility energy requirement, renewable integration or a defined electricity-system need. Treat these as objectives to evaluate, not benefits already demonstrated.

Identify the project setting

Record the location, owner, main stakeholders, procurement route and current stage. Note existing electrical infrastructure and any information that still needs to be gathered.

Separate power from energy

Where available, state both the intended power capacity and energy capacity, with their units. If these are unknown, explain the operating objective rather than guessing values.

Make the next decision clear

Explain whether the immediate need is feasibility, specification development, proposal evaluation, deployment review or commissioning readiness. Identify the information needed to make that decision.

Applying this to your project

Project-specific advice requires a defined scope, verified inputs and the involvement of the responsible competent parties.
